    Malta’s gaming festival is back. PLAYCON 2026, the sixth edition, takes over the MFCC in Ta’ Qali from 19 to 22 November 2026, bringing together gaming, esports, game development, cosplay and the wider digital entertainment industry, in partnership with GamingMalta.

    From 8,000 to 25,000+

    PLAYCON launched in 2019 as Malta’s first game development and esports expo, welcoming around 8,000 visitors. By 2024 it had grown to more than 25,000, with the show floor expanding to 7,600 square metres and more than 60 exhibitors.

    What’s on

    • Esports: tournaments listed so far include Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, EA FC 27, League of Legends, CS2, Assetto Corsa and Blood Bowl 3.
    • DAIGON Students’ Esports World Championship: school teams from around the world compete in Rocket League and Minecraft, following the first edition in Malta in 2025.

    Christmas in Malta isn’t complete without a panto. This year ACTion Productions presents MERLIN, a Maltese-language pantomime in two acts, at Teatru Dun Mikiel Xerri in Ħaż-Żebbuġ from 11 to 13 December 2026.

    The story

    Merlin the wizard is loved by everyone and always ready to help, especially the underdog. But he has a problem: he can’t use his magic, all because of King Arturo, a man full of apathy. Then there’s Excalibur, the sword everyone wants because it makes you truly powerful, and now the villains have arrived. What are they plotting, and will they succeed? Expect colourful characters, non-stop laughs, dancing, singing and music.

    The venue

    Teatru Dun Mikiel Xerri is a multi-purpose hall built in the 1950s, across the road from the Żebbuġ parish church. It’s named after Dun Mikiel Xerri, the Żebbuġ-born priest and patriot executed in 1799 after the revolt against French rule. ACTion Productions has staged its Christmas pantomimes here before, including Snow White in 2018.

    A long Maltese tradition

    Pantomime has been part of Christmas in Malta for more than a century. The first, Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp, was staged in January 1911, and local productions in Maltese keep the tradition alive for families across the island.

    About Pro Wrestling Malta

    Pro Wrestling Malta (PWM) was founded in February 2014 by Wayne Pace, known in the ring as “The Maltese Warrior” Gianni De La Valette, who trained and wrestled in the UK and Europe because Malta had no training centre of its own. PWM describes itself as the island’s first and only pro wrestling promotion. It runs a training academy, holds regular shows and stages three major events a year featuring local and international talent. Its very first show, “Il-Bidu” (The Beginning), took place in July 2015.

    Fall Brawl

    Fall Brawl is one of PWM’s big annual nights and returns to Montekristo Estate, where last year’s edition was also held. Expect high-flying action, heated rivalries and a loud crowd. It’s built as a night out for friends and families alike. Match announcements usually come from PWM in the run-up to the show, so keep an eye on their channels.

    Malta’s craziest bingo show is going super for Halloween. Boozy Bingo’s Halloween Special takes over the Gianpula Main Room for two shows: a Saturday night special on 31 October and a Sunday afternoon show on 1 November 2026.

    What is Boozy Bingo?

    Think the bingo you know, turned into a party: numbers called between sing-alongs, rave breaks, ridiculous games, iconic performances, special guests and a lot of prizes. It has been packing out Gianpula for years, running in seasons of themed shows.

    Why these two games matter

    Group D1 is a tight three-team group. Gibraltar and Andorra drew 0-0 on 27 September, which means Malta, with three points from their opening game, are the only side with a win so far.     Recent history also favours the home side against Andorra: Malta had gone four Nations League meetings unbeaten against them even before September’s win. Games at this level are usually decided by small margins, though, and a full, loud Ta’ Qali can make the difference.

    Mdina Grand Prix 2026: Classic Cars Race Beneath Malta’s Silent City

    Few motorsport settings anywhere can match this one: priceless classic cars racing beneath the fortified walls of Mdina, on a circuit that winds through a valley of vineyards and terraced hills. The Malta Classic returns for its 16th edition from 1 to 4 October 2026, and its headline event, the Mdina Grand Prix: takes over the weekend of 3 and 4 October.

    A short history

    Malta’s first Classic Car Grand Prix was organised in October 2007 by French entrepreneur and classic car enthusiast Thierry Giovannoni. Two years later, local enthusiasts set up the Valletta Grand Prix Foundation to keep the tradition going, and in 2011 the event moved to Mdina, where it has lived ever since. Last year’s edition drew more than 55 pre-1976 cars, with participants travelling from across Europe.

    The four days at a glance

    • Thursday 1 October, Hill Climb: vintage cars race the clock up the Mtaħleb hill, with dramatic cliff-side views towards Filfla. Free to watch.
    • Friday 2 October, Style & Elegance: a concours where pre-war and post-war classics and motorcycles are judged on style and elegance. Free to watch.
    • Saturday 3 October, Grand Prix practice: cars are put to the test on a track of tight bends, sweeping curves and inclines, finishing with timed drives that set Sunday’s starting order.

    Which ticket should you get?

    The Hill Climb and Style & Elegance events need no ticket. For the Grand Prix weekend there are three ways to watch:

    • Paddock (€15.75 a day, €26.25 for both days): get close to the cars, take photos and chat to the drivers.
    • Grandstand (€52.50 a day): an elevated stand at the end of the starting grid, looking onto the first corner. Includes paddock access.
    • VIP (€78.75 a day, €131.25 for both days): a dedicated area in the Tomba Gardens above the paddock, with free-flowing water and coffee, finger food, grandstand access and paddock access.

    All prices include the booking fee. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult enter free. A dedicated shuttle bus loops between the Grandstand, the Roman Villa, Saqqajja and the Olive Gardens, and there are food stalls and toilets on site.

    Tips for the day

    Wear comfortable shoes: Mdina and Rabat are best explored on foot, and the shuttle makes it easy to switch between viewing spots. Follow Malta Classic on social media in the days before for the list of cars taking part, and arrive early on Sunday to secure a good spot for the start.

    Europe’s biggest music contest for young singers is coming to Malta. The 24th Junior Eurovision Song Contest takes place on Saturday 24 October 2026 at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta’ Qali, organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster PBS. It’s the third time Malta has hosted the contest, after 2014 and 2016, and the first time the contest has ever been held in October.

    A Maltese “festa” on stage

    PBS is transforming the MFCC into a Eurovision Festa Village, inspired by Malta’s village feasts, with colourful façades and traditional balconies built into the stage design. Expect the energy of a summer festa, packed into one night of live television.

    Presented by two Maltese winners

    The show will be hosted by Gaia Cauchi, who won Junior Eurovision for Malta in 2013, Destiny Chukunyere, who won it in 2015, and Keane Cutajar. Having two former winners on stage says a lot about Malta’s proud record in the contest.

    Who’s competing

    Sixteen countries will take part: Albania, Armenia, Cyprus, France, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Spain and Ukraine. Performers are aged between 9 and 14.
